Network for socio-ecological resilience to climatic adversities
Knowledge exchange platform on the subject of socio-ecological resilience to climatic adversities in Family Farming systems
Context of the story
The effects of climate change create new challenges for family farmers and the technical agricultural institutions that assist them. They demand greater adaptive capacity from Family Farming (FF), and push researchers and extension workers to design new ways of tackling the problems under consideration together with new devices and strategies to apply in the territory. This demand gives rise to joint creation and generation of knowledge and capabilities. In 2017, FONTAGRO organized a Call for Projects in order to select proposals that address the need for innovation in sustainable intensification of FF productive systems facing climate variability and change.

The implemented initiative
A platform was set up with the aim of developing a consensus proposal called: "Innovations to increase socio-ecological resilience in the face of climatic adversities in mixed systems of family farming, through their sustainable intensification" through a regional workshop held on 4th, 5th and 6th of December, 2017 in San Carlos de Bariloche, Río Negro province, Argentina.

The technological solution
A proposal for international technical cooperation was prepared to evaluate the impact of innovations on the sustainable intensification of family farming using a participatory interdisciplinary approach with the co-construction of knowledge and participatory methodological tools.
Family farming systems located in marginal areas are often more vulnerable to the negative effects of climate and its changes
